Editorial Submission Guidelines
HARTFORD WOMAN ONLINE editorial guidelines for writers, photographers, cartoonists, bloggers and poets interested in submitting to this monthly online magazine, established in 2009 in to create a local online community for work-from-home and outside employed women and entrepreneurs. We welcome submissions from experienced professionals who have knowledge to share with our readers. We seek knowledgeable correspondents from cultural and demographic groups that are not yet covered.

We seek:
1. How-to articles including clever ways to solve problems or earn income.
2. Profiles of notable women.
3. Specific career options with economic details, such as how much something costs or how much
one might expect to earn.
4. Consumer news—prices paid, popular items, trends, etc.
5. Humorous articles related to our general subject matter.
We do not publish any of the following:
-religious material
-political topics
-anything that could be considered offensive, sexist, racist, ageist or other – at the discretion of the Publisher.
Deadlines: given only for stories assigned to established contributors. All others submit on speculation. Please submit seasonal stories at least 2 months in advance.
Submission: Submit the completed story or a brief description of what you intend to cover and how you'll handle it. Know your subject—our savvy readers are quick to notice errors in details. Email submission are encouraged, but please include your email address in text sent by attachment. With each submission include a brief bio-note describing your non-writing interests and your qualification for your writing about your subject. A photo is encouraged (both you and to illustrate your topic.)
Sample issue: Issues are updated daily. The current home page is a sample of some of the items that we run on a typical day and more artivcles may be found under archives.
Length: Minimum 350 words; maximum 700 words.
Response: Since we are on a monthly schedule, if you do not hear back right away please be patient—it may take up to six weeks for us to get around to reviewing new material.
Payment: Currently we do NOT pay for submissions. We do, however, allow for back links to your web site and / or blog, mention of your products in your bio, and, for REGULAR contributors ONLY a small display banner on your article page promoting your products and web site.

The “non-commercial clause” of the Creative Commons license available at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/ must be waived by all contributors for a one-time use by Hartford Woman Online and the way to do this is to include the wording in your submission email: I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE NON-COMMERCIAL CLAUSE OF THE CREATIVE COMMONS AGREEMENT IS HEREBY WAIVED FOR THIS ONE TIME USE BY HARTFORD WOMAN ONLINE (please type your name and mailing address).
