Cedar Hill's Feathered Friends: Walk and Talk

Join Jay Kaplan from Roaring Brook Nature Center for his annual bird walk and talk at Cedar Hill. Jay will lead visitors through Cedar Hill's ornamental foreground in search of resident birds. For those who want to make a full morning of the feathered friends search, Jay will take guests for a walk through the woods of Cedar Mountain. Appropriate hiking shoes, water and binoculars are strongly recommended for this walk and talk.

Civil War Education Series: The Many Faces and Facets of the Civil War

The Civil War had many implications in the City of Hartford and beyond. Join us on an informative walk and talk as we explore the lives of soldiers and their families, including prisoners of war, abolitionist, politicians and others who were influenced by the Civil War and its impact on the country. This tour kicks off Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation's 2011 Civil War Education Series commemorating the 150th anniversary of the commencement of the American Civil War.

Connecticut Trails Day 2011 – Tree Buffs Paradise Tour
Saturday, June 4, 2011, 10:00am – 2:45pm
Free for all
Ed Richardson and John Kehoe will lead this 3-mile walk featuring Cedar Hill's American rural landscape design, rare and notable trees, and a smattering of notable memorials. Commencing at the entranceway, the group will walk through the ornamental foreground, the historic memorial sections, and some of the newer sections before looping back to the entranceway. This slow-paced walk will include several stops and commentaries. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water and a bag lunch for a picnic on the grounds.

Architects at Cedar Hill, Part II

Tomas Nenortas & Mary Falvey of the Hartford Preservation Alliance will be leading this tour of "Modern" architects interred at Cedar Hill. Visitors will hear about the lives and architectural accomplishments of such noted architects as Walter T. Arnold, Marshall Davenson and Albert Entress.

Walk with Cedar Hill Volunteer Doris Griffith as she introduces you to some of Cedar Hill's most notable residents. Learn about the discoverer of anesthesia and his tragic life, the woman behind the management of Colt's Manufacturing, and the man who saved the country from bankruptcy twice! Doris will introduce you to Hartford's rich heritage by sharing the lives and accomplishments of people who made significant contributions to Hartford and beyond.

Governors of Connecticut

Join gubernatorial researcher Patrick Haggerty on a tour of state governors interred at Cedar Hill Cemetery. As Connecticut commences the year with a new governor, you will be introduced to individuals that have held the state's highest office and be treated to stories about their lives, times and accomplishments.
